OCR: Directory Opus 5 release 5.11 Notes 22th June 1995 Thank you for purchasing Directory Opus. We hope you enjoy using the progran as much as we do! Registration Procedure The registration process used in Directory Opus 5 has been designed to be of minimal inconvenience to the legitimate purchaser but at the same tine protect our rights and investment in the development of the product. We have experimented with a number of procedures, many of which were much harsher in operation to the one now used. We believe that with your help, the current. serialisation system and registration can work well for both you and us. In the current Amiga market, software piracy means that we and other developers will not be able to continue to develop software for to show Directory Opus to friends but for the Amiga. This would be a loss to all of us! We encourage to give then copies t not to you of the disk. Remember the old saying, Pass the word not this disk. Third Party Graphics Boards. We have tried tupe of board currently on the Aniga maniga 03 guidelines standard We have made efforts to test Directory Opus on a variety of third party graphics boards. Unfortunately we do not possess each and every type of board to ensure that Opus5 obeys all t and can vouch that it performs as advertised on all Aniga operating systems including 3.1. However, we cannot guarantee that the viewer and other functions will operate on all third party graphics cards. We have found some of the software accompanying graphics boards to be very good. We have also found that some graphics cards behave strangely and seen to be incompatible with the standard Amiga programming guidelines for graphics. In some cases, Directory Opus 5 may have some problems showing the ses the standard Amiga DATATYPES pictures on such boards. found count sometimes these do e do not work to show pictures and we have correctly on 3rd party boards. If you experience these problems, you should edit the filetypes definitions (or grab a new on from the 'Storage' directory) and edit the specific commands attached to the double-click function to add a call to the viewer program supplied by the manufacturer of the board. If you have problems with a 3rd party board, first of all contact the manufacturer of the board. However, we wish to keep a log of such problems so please send us details for reference Alternatively, if you are a nanufacturer or developer of 3rd party graphics boards, we will be happy to work with you to look into any problems which may arise using Directory Opus 5. GPSoftware Picasso 11 wishes to extend its gratitude to supply of sso 11 card for evaluation and tegeTronic for Languages Directory Opus 5 has been written in full compliance with the Amiga Locale system and can therefore be made available in any language supported by Locale. As time goes by we will endeavour to make non-english language catalogs available. If you wish to volunteer to create a catalog for your local language which is by Opus 5, please contact us or your local for details of localised versions. ut currently supple Rexx Scripts We have provided a set of ARexx scripts which have been supplied by enthusiastic Opus 5 users. These are contained in the Dopus5:Arexx directory. GPSoftware provides these scripts AS IS with no explicit or implied warranty or support. Please contact the original authors for any information. There are several other ARexx scripts under development and we plan to make these available via ia such as and Me are in the process of setting up an internet site to provide such support, help and assistance for Directory Opus 5. Stay tuned. Directory Opus 5.11 Update Release Notes The following changes and additions have been made to Directory Opas since the first release of version 5.0. A number of bugs have been We have always believed that one of the really nifty features and fixed and several ne new commands and functions have been of DOpus 5 is its extensive use of Drag & Drop principles. In this version, we have added even more support for this activity The NEW FEATURES include: 1. We have added ability to play soundtracker modules to the PLAY connand We still believe that there are some very good. commercial and PD/Shareware programs (for example, the OctaMedPlayer and Delitracker) which do a much better job, but many users wanted the ability built-in as in DOpus 4. The PLAY command will now handle some of these formats but not all. A BEEP connand has been included in the internal commands. This simply nakes a "beep" sound to notify you, for example, when a sequence of commands have finished. 3. The Directory Opus screen can nou be made the Default Public Screen. A new toggle nenu has been added to the Settings menu. Programs which do not open their own screen will generally use the default public screen when opening windows. For example, with Dopus as the default pubscreen, most workbench programs, the Shell, Clock and other utilities will now open on the Dopus Screen. (Note: This behaviour IS dependent on exactly how the application progran has been written.) Obviously, this setting has no effect when Opus is running as a Workbench replacement The DeviceList connand has been expanded with addition of the FULL parameter switch. This will expand the Assign list to show the full path of single and any multiple-directory assignments in the systen. If not specified, the device list will be in the old format (unexpanded assigns). More Drag and Drop functionality! The "Selection Destination" requester is now an AppWindow. You can nou drag & drop a destination drive onto the window to set the path B. You can now drag and drop within Function Editors: either to swap function lines around within the one editor or to copy function lines to another editor. If you hold down shift while you drag a function line from one editor to another, the entire function will be copied. You can now drop files on Program Group icons to add then to the group. Before you had to actually open the group to add neu entries You can now change iten positions within the Menu Editors using drag and drop. (instead of with the Move Up/Down buttons) Non-DOS disk icons are nou shown (like in Workbench): a new option (Environment/Display Options/Hide bad disks) allows you to hide these icons again if you wish to unclutter your backdrop window. Added "Skip All" button to Copy function. Nou, if a file exists you nou get the option to skip all, meaning ALL files that already exist will be skipped. Added "Lister Options" to Environment configuration. You can now turn the device list off in new listers, change the behaviour of a double right button click to bring up the Format Editor in a lister, and can set the default size of new listers. Added popup menu to custon Button Bank uindou (right nouse button over button window title bar), with Iconify feature. AREXX CHANGES AND ENHANCEMENTS 1. A new feature has been added to has been added specify a nimus sign stripped of any suffix. As an example, to the (f) and (o) se sequences. If you (-) after the letter, the filenane will be AmigaDOS renane (fu) (f-). Izx would replace any suffix the selected file had with a .1zx suffix (eg renane "ran:test. Iha" "ran: test. Izx") This and the above changes nakes possible the following (extremely tricky) function to convert LHA files to LZX automatically: AmigaDOS nakedir t:lzxtenp AnigaDOS Tha-x-x (fu) t:lzxtemp AnigaDOS ed t:lzxtemp AmigaDOS Izx-e-x-ra (fu-). Izx ? AmigaDOS delete (f) quiet force AnigaDOS cd ran: Harga AmigaDOS delete t:lzxtemp all quiet force A new parameter, STEM, has been added to the ARexx lister query command. Examples are With the "lister query entry" connand lister query handle entry # sten fileinfo The fields returned are: MAME SIZE TYPE type (0 file, 0 dir) SELECTED DATE seconds since 1/1/78 PROTECT protection bits (long value: DATESTRING datestamp in ascii form PROTSTRING- protection bits in ascii form COMMENT file connent (if any) FILETYPE file type (if any) Without the sten keyword, the information is returned in RESULT as before. The "lister query selfiles" and similar commands can now return information in STEM variables. For example, lister query handle selfiles sten files The fields returned are: number of entries - first filename second filename last filenanes COUNT 1 COUNT-1 Without the sten keyword, the names are returned in RESULT as before. The "lister query all", "lister query source" and "lister query dest" commands nou accept a STEM parameter. For example, lister query all sten listers The fields returned are: number of listers COUNT - first lister handle 1 second handle COUNT-1 - last handle Without the sten keyword, the handles are returned in RESULT as before. 3. There previously was no way to get the return value from a Dopus getstrithe tring ARexx command (ie which the which button was selected). This is rexx return values are specified (you can have but not both, for some strange reason). The from this command is nou returned in a variable th way due to the either RESULT or re RC, button value called DOPUSRC. RC will always be 0 from this command, and RESULT will contain the string entered unless cancel was selected, or no string was entered. The new DOPUSRC variable may be used by other commands in the future. new (Q1) sequence to get the source lister handle handler In this Added a version 5.11, these are only sent when you use the side parent bar or press or Added new commands 'dopus addtrap' and 'dopus rentrap' to allow more control over individual listers by custon handlers. From a Lister, any button events which generate internal Opus can now be trapped by a custon handler. (For an example, Trap-Test.dopus5 script in the new Dopus:Arexx directory. sent as the result of a trapped function (eg Copy) will contain the argument portion of Trapped functions are now used when operation that has a custon handler, as the "quotes" given commands see the Messages the function string as argument 5. it is the destination of an well as the source. If you specify flag after a "lister set handler" then any filenanes sent to the handler as the result of a connand, dropfron, trapped drop, function, etc, will be enclosed in quotes. A new action, "path", is sent if the user presses return on the path field of a lister with a custon handler active. MINOR CHANGES AND BUG FIXES The following minor problems have b 5.11 update version. (german version). These fix / Vous bugs reported to us for identified and fixed in this version 5.0 include: and 5.1 Fixed some The problems and changes problems with multiple-line functions. This was intermittent but many multi-line commands in buttons did not work reliably. The string returned by "lister query selfiles" is now the correct length. Mouse position was not being checked correctly for a double-click when selecting a button to edit. Fixed problem with filenane quoting in commands. For example, if you had this could come out as (f).old, "ran: testfile".old It nou correctly comes up as "ran: testfile.old" message when a lister is closed was sent The "inactive" prematurely, so that under sone circunstances (high that cpu load for instance), query" would indicate the lister was even though it had been destroyed. Also, an a "lister still present message Destination "inactive" was not being sent if the lister was empty when it was closed. The "Select requester would leave the lister list locked while it you wouldn't be able to open any new listers until been closed. Projects with a included a relative path (eg "bin installer") If you deleted button functions from a button would not the dog-ear The "inactive" nou always contain the path of the lister in Arg4: "active" messages also contain Arg2 will the path unless a title has been case it will contain the title. set in which or If you dropped a button another menu item editors, the menu list display wasn't into one of the menu. updated correctly (you could end up two highlight bars). only icons ignore any programs that were from lister using not work with When doing UBStartup, Opus would (ie default tools). When DOpus runs WBStartup programs nou the STARTPRI and WAIT tooltypes (but not DONOTUAIT). The way "Workbench" processes are are now launched has changed. All programs now launched by the one process is established by the library. This means eans that there is of Dopus RTS each workbench process you sitting around for Path inheritance should Workbench replacement work properly when Dopus is run as a (ie via LoadDB) in copy was broken, fixed. "Replace All" Fixed problem with off-screen, DOpus AppIcons: if their initial position was would not update sliders properly. As done by work for all program launching. DOpus nou grabs a pathlist when it starts up, and uses that f If you had hour clock turned on it was possible for the "file already requester to overurite a buffer. There was problen using (s) in filetype functions Inserting ( sequences in a function string via the popup list in the function editor nou inserts with spaces as necessary. Filetype saving and refreshing method modified. On 68000 machines, a couple of bugs could cause address errors on functions with odd-length parameters (eg Confirm NOTEVEN) node can not be opened Non-existent drawers in icon to If you tried replace an existing file (via Copy) and the existing file could not be deleted successfully, an error requester is now shoun (before it would fail silently). Fixed with the print (blank pages, etc) some problems Minor changes to Text viewer including filter of CRs. The path field is no longer cleared if you enter an invalid directory to read in a lister. and button banks The icons for iconified icons turned off how show up even if you have the display off Added key command to Renove program from group. Lister/Snapshot and Icon Snapshot/Windou nou snapshot the text/icon state of the lister properly. Fixed a problem that some people complained of where listers could be saved and not come up in the correct position (even with Save Layout turned on), After discussions with Frank Mariak, we increased stack size on palette box box to to prevent crashes for or user users the CyberGraphics RTG systems which uses ZK more stack space than standard Aniga graphics libraries. (Some other problems with Cybergraphics and Opus 5 are fixed in the 40.49 release of the Cybergraphics software.) ARexx "dropfrom" nou contains the source lister handle in Arg1 and the destination lister handle (if any) in Arg2. The search string is now carried over into the text viewer, when using the Search command. Added a couple more key equivalents to the text viewer to make it nore like Opus4 (t-top.b-botton,q-quit,p-print, s-search,n=next search). The "Select Destination requester should now appear for external functions as necessary. Fixed problems with Alt-click on the toolbar in the blank area. Copying a directory to a urite protected or non-present disk would give the wrong message. With multiple banks being edited, clicking Save on the bank editor would banks correctly Hou only the help (ie shift help, etc, will not do it). The "lister longer clears your custon handler name. The "lister empty" command still you are nou sent an "inactive" message correctly. Added kludge for ToolManger to prevent system performance when it updates its tool nenu (the problen will still exist for anything else lots items to the tools menu at once). Fixed problem where iconified lister icons could be "relocated" but the not updated correctly. Opus would crash if if you tried to open a requester command) with more than 1024 bytes of text in it. p. opus request 'Output results in the Search function was broken. Fixed. Fixed problems with reading from CrossDos (PCB:) disks when text filtering and text translation was enabled. Fixed problem would cause character to appear in the key field Phew!
